The Hunting Hills swim team, aka the Houndogs, continued its domination of Roanoke Valley swimming by capturing its 13th City-County championship over the weekend of July 29-30. Twelve have come since 2003. The championship meet moved to the Christiansburg Aquatic Center this year and the Houndogs turned out in force, with a league-high 120 entrants. When it was over, Hunting Hills had scored more than 18,000 points and had defeated second-place by more than 3,500 points. Of the eight individuals who scored the maximum of 300 points, three were from Hunting Hills. They were Annette Patterson (50-59 women), Matt Doughty (19-24 men) and newcomer Doug Shanks (40-49 men). It was the third time that Matt Doughty, who had not swum in two years, had scored 300 points at City-County. Annette and Doug Shanks broke club records in every event they swam during the regular season and City-County.

The Smith family (Trey, Ryan Cade and Josh) received the coveted Jostens Trophy that goes to the highest-scoring family. They traded places with the Murtaughs, who won it in 2015. The season was capped off by a swim-team banquet on the Sunday evening after the meet. Morgan Smith and the Grant twins, Caroline and Katie, did a wonderful job putting together a video. Thanks go out to pool manager Duke Edsall and his staff for making our facility the best in the area and allowing us to host meets on all six Monday nights during the season.
